For Sale: Columbia Viva-Tonal 820 near Baltimore $1500

Post by barnettrp21122 »

Hello All:
I've owned a Viva-Tonal 820 for a few years and am now offering it to make room for another piece.

Below are several pictures.
I've tried to photograph the flaws along with the good parts.

The Garrad motor's been gone over, with the three mainsprings removed, cleaned and greased.
It runs perfectly, as silent as can be.
The cabinet is in good shape, with typical light wear. You'll notice one scuff mark on the right door. I believe this could be blended in with little trouble.
The top is good, with a little haze that could be further polished out.
The reproducer was rebuilt by Wyatt Markus. There is some typical wear on the crook of the tone arm, otherwise the finish is good.
You'll notice some needle scratches on the wooden motorboard near the start/stop lever.
Needle cups are original to the machine.
It has the original anodized winding crank.
The grill cloth is original with some weakness on the top boarder, shown in the pictures.
The record index cards are about 98 percent intact in the drawers. I've never used them due to their brittle condition.
The front door knobs are a bit loose, and one wooden pull is missing a bit of the rim. I believe a previous owner may have glued the screws into them so I haven't tried to undo them. The doors are straight but a bit stubborn with the bottom latches, and I don't force them completely shut.
It's a very nice machine and I've enjoyed it.
I'm attending Stanton's auction held in Hastings, Michigan in mid-April and would be able to bring it there for pickup. Transfer could also be possible enroute from Baltimore to Hastings.
Price is $1500.00
Please PM me with any questions. Thanks for looking!

These huge Columbia VTs are wonderful machines that rival- and in my opinion surpass- a Credenza! These Columbias are FAR less common, though. Good luck with the sale! I just hope you don't wind up regretting it. Voice of experience on that one.

Beautiful machine Bob! This rare machine should sell in a heartbeat. I love Viva-Tonals. I have 5 of them myself!
