Interesting cylindrical machine for auction in UK.

At first glance I wondered whether this was a cabinet gramophone of the Tyrela type to which a back bracket had been added, but on reflection I think it deserves the benefit of the doubt.
The case is of good quality and the entire machine appears to be of the same age. Restored and with a suitable horn it would look most impressive.
If it were not for the round trip of over 300 miles I would be tempted to take it on as a project.

Indeed it looks disengaged, probably only hanging on the hole. The best is always to inspect it in person, but I could not see in the photos any obvious sign of falsification.

As Carlos says, the odd angle of the winding handle suggests that it has not engaged with the motor.

Some back brackets were attached with wing nuts, others with knurled round nuts which look better.

It’s difficult to judge an item without actually seeing it. There’s a few things that don’t look quite right to me. Whilst wing nuts were used I doubt they would be used where they can be obviously seen on a round fine inlaid cabinet. Also the back bracket is mounted on poorly fitting wood and then there’s the depth of the bucket (now the motor housing). Personally I would put my money on a Wine Cooler, early 20th Century in the Sheraton Style. Close examination might reveal that the inside was once metal lined or maybe still is. The lid now being the motor board.
