Record cabinet/stand for Victor The 8th?

Post by smitharthur »

Does anyone know if Victor made/sold a cabinet that one could store records in, and put a Victrola VIII on top, with a reasonable match? It is the tiger oak finish.

I do not know if Victor sold a particular record cabinet for a Victrola VIII. But I do know that aftermarket cabinet makers made suitable cabinets for your machine. You will find generic cabinets that are flat on top that were made for a variety of machines. Also, cabinets were made for specific table model Victrolas. Those cabinets would have top molding that would frame the Victrola. A cabinet that's flat on top but suitable size would be the easiest to locate. You might try an ad in the Trader section of our Forum. Be sure to read the guidelines first. :)

Thanks. Well, just wanted to see if such a creature existed. I would never have one shipped, so wasn't sure if I should look here locally in Massachusetts. I have my 8 on a wooden TV tray now, which works great, but would love to have my TV tray back. A

Yes, such cabinets were made by third party suppliers. I have a VV-VI on top of mine, but I think with a VV-VIII it would look close to a larger upright and add record storage to the VV-VIII. I assume that's what people were trying to accomplish without the larger price tag of an upright.

Thanks for the photos- exactly what I was hoping to see. Victor The 8th would look perfect on that! A

Here is a "Cabinet that Matches" for a Vic VIII. Part of a line up of cabinets designed to accept the exact size of the base into the top of the cabinet which gave it the appearance of a single unit. Photo compliments of a posting years ago from Rich Gordon.

Oh, is that a nice looking combo. Thanks for sharing! Curious, who made the cabinet?

This model has the wardrobe door at 90 degrees to the machine front. The other one shown at the top photos has the front doors matching the Victor horn. I find this all-frontal arrangement is more convenient. Rich Gordon's model seems better suited for those "landscape" machines as the Victrola 1-90, the hmv 104 and the like, which have the horn at the large side.
