I see tension springs are widely available. But what specific one would i put into to an Edisonic Schubert? and you change it with the lid open, beacsue its streched with lid closed i see- probably why i lost its tension over the many many years. Is this a hard fix for a noivce? ive taken the grill off before i can get in there, i just dont know how hard it would be to remove and attach, and what specific spring to buy. any tips much appriciated!!! thanks!

While I am not familiar with the lid tension device of an Edisonic, many other such devices have an adjustment to that allows you to vary the spring tension in order to get it "just right". Show a photo of your lid tension mechanism and perhaps we can give further guidance. As for replacing a spring, it should be possible, in theory, unless the spring is very unique. Again... photos.

That thing isn't very well made, and that rivet is often really worn on those things. I've replaced a few of those with the lid prop mechanism from an earlier machine. The spring has its advantages, but the older style is less troublesome.

I did the same with mine, eventually. Funky design with multiple articulated joints. Never got it quite right.

Wow. Yes, very flimsy looking. Also, appears to have its adjustment right at the limit, (the "eye" loop at the bottom). You could remove the spring and take it to a good hardware store that has an assortment. Look for one that is dimensionally the same, right down to the diameter of the wire it's made from. If it were a little shorter, that would probably be okay, as long as the adjuster will accomodate the difference.

It appears as if the spring tension is adjusted to maximum. If it is still lack of spring tension that causes the problem, shorten the spring a little. However, before doing that please state the symptom. Does the lid not stay all the way up or not stay all the way down?

Lid just won’t stay up-

I got rid of the one that had the problem, but I seem to remember that the multi-articulated support arm had action that created a detent at the end of the upward travel. It sort of clicked and stayed open at the upper limit.
