Reproduction "hand-wind" Berliner on Ebay

Post by Zwebie »

Looks like a machinists version of a Berliner "hand-wind" that they are trying to sell as original:

It must be original... it comes with a Little Wonder record...

I notified the seller that this was a reproduction, and sent him some pictures of an original machine, but he still hasn't changed a thing on his description!

I can't believe it's up to $1000!

Wow, Bob S.

In general I find it a futile exercise informing ignorant Ebay sellers about items they're selling. If you get a reply which isn't brief and insulting it tends to be along the lines of deep gratitude for your time and effort and then.......nothing! Do they correct their listings? No. Do they add the information? No. Do they in any way acknowledge the information you imparted to them in the listing? No.

So what is the point, I ask?

It's a slicker. That's why he doesn't inform the machine is a replica. He can sell higher if the lie is maintained. Whatever the reason... Maybe he was also cheated when buying this. That's how lies go on and on... We well could see it again on the market as soon as the new owner gets aware of the fake!
