Edison Standard C in U.K. - I.C.S. machine?

Post by Menophanes »

This looks like an interesting opportunity for somebody: an Edison Standard C, lacking the reproducer and crank but otherwise well preserved, and including combination gearing, a repeater-key and an outboard speed-control like that of a model A. I presume the last two features indicate a machine designed for use with International Correspondence Schools language cylinders. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234058514566 ... ition=3000

Are there many C-series phonographs in Britain? I have been under the impression that they were never actually sold here.

If I did not already have a perfectly serviceable Standard B with a combination-attachment I would probably be in pursuit of this myself; as it is I have no motive other than to ensure that it is not overlooked by people who will appreciate it. Certainly the lack of an overhead regulator on ordinary Standards from the B onwards is a nuisance, as it entails opening the case every time you need to make an adjustment; I would love my B even better if it had this feature.

That is most certainly an ICS Standard. If you zoom in on the case, you can see the holes where the ICS plaque used to be. Certainly unusual to see in the UK, but it's small enough that an American or Canadian could have brought it over on a boat at some point.
