Need Input - thinking of buying a gutted oak A-250

Well,

I was hesitant to post this thread on this section of the site, but have a question relating to a machine I am thinking about purchasing. I currently have an Edison A-250 in mahogany. I really, really like it. However, I have been searching for an oak Edison A-250 for some time, and finally found one. Problem is, it's missing the horn and the motor. How hard would it be to find either one?

If you are patient, you'll find what you need to complete an A250 project. I personally would only try if the empty cabinet is very nice. A nice empty cabinet would be a worthy project. Have you checked with George V. for a mechanism? Jerry

Finding the replacement parts will be a very tall order for a few reasons.
- If by "gutted" you mean you are buying only the cabinet, that means you'd need to find a brown, (not maroon)bedplate horn etcetera for it to be correct. Brown ones would only come from another oak machine.
- A250s usually had the serial number stamped on the bedplate and often in the inside of the cabinet so you would not have matching serial numbers.
- If you already have the bedplate and horn, finding just the motor parts (which would be interchageable with a mahogany machine)would still be very difficult. You might have to buy another machine just to get those parts.

So..... it would be a challenge but if the cabinet is nice and you are not in a hurry... well up to you.

I agree with you by the way that the A250 is a great machine. I have two of them also, one oak and one mahogany.
