For Sale: VE 8-60 E in Roseburg, Or $550

Post by Jerry B. »

I saw this in Roseburg, Oregon a few days ago. I think it's a VE 8-60 E. It looked very nice with owner's manual and the price was $550. If someone was interested I would get the phone number.

I am not an authority on the Orthophonic machines but would appreciate any comments on this model. Are there pot metal pitfalls? Any opinions on rarity or value? I looked in the Victor Data Books and it looks like it's quite unusual. Please educate me!

Thanks, Jerry B.

Wow that's a really neat machine. I wish I could afford/have the space for it!

This is a major find, and it’s worth the effort and expense to acquire it. Remember, Brother Jerry’s Delivery Service is already there!

That is a really odd machine with both acoustic and electronic reproducers, along with a tube amp... If the amp works it's definitely a bargain, if not you can still play it acoustically. Too bad it's in Oregon...

You "need" it, Jerry...

It’s too new, and sounds too good, for Jerry.

These are the best of both worlds; a true hybrid. The amps are quite easy to fix and the pickup is cheap to rebuild. The usual weak point is the air valve and its linkages and gearing, but the valve lever being intact might tell us that this machine might not have experienced the temperature cycles which lead to potmetalosis.

This is a definite buy.

Jerry called me about this yesterday. I am having a really hard time slapping myself and repeating "but it's NOT a changer!". :) I want it but I for sure don't NEED it. Peter, do you need me to store it for you?

Maybe this could be how I convince your avatar to STOP SMASHING RECORDS dammit. You'll give Annette ideas.
