Has anyone ever tried a cylinder lid exchange?
I like my cylinders in boxes and I only use the lid if it matches the title. I have quite a quantity of good but unused lids. Has anyone ever tried a lid exchange?

I was hoping this topic would generate some discussion. Should it have been started in the "machine" section? (Maybe it's just a bad idea) Jerry

I think its a good idea - I am just thinking of the orphaned lids I've got which are of littel use to me. Maybe we should start a list of lids available for exchange for the cost of postage.

Great idea and I'd be interested. But, for now, I'd be more a consumer than a supplier, as I am missing more lids than I have duplicates.

This was done in the 80's by Martin Bryan who edited the New Amberola Graphic: readers sent in their orphan tops and requested what was needed. I forget how the details worked but I do recall he exchanged about 500 lids. At that point I had no spare lids.

Lets assume I have 100 orphan lids and I could list them on a web site.
The lids are listed by number and condition.
For every two lids that you need, you send in three good lids.
Collector A checks the list and finds that he needs four of the lids.
Collector A mails six of his orphan lids and includes return postage for the four that he needs.
Over time, the list of available lids would grow and more lids would be mated to the correct record.

What do you think? Is that fair?

I would suggest starting with Blue Amberol lids.
