Found a 14" all brass horn at a local antique store for cheap but maybe too cheap.. Looking for opinions on the authenticity of this little guy being an original vintage horn.. Seems to be a little sloppy as far as the soldering job. Only $25 so can't get hurt too much but looks nothing like my other 3 brass horns though it seems to have some age.
Opinions appreciated.

Re: 14" Brass horn question
It is an India reproduction. Horn makers did not solder there parts together. Tom

It looks like an old one to me, but one that has been repaired with solder. Curious what others think.

Re: 14" Brass horn question
I checked 14" all brass horns in my collection. Only one has a crimped small end. In my photo it is the one with the hanger. The other three all have soldered ends. I checked other larger all brass horns in the basement and those also have soldered small ends. I believe the horn in question in this thread is original.

Blizz, if you don't buy the horn for $25 I'd gladly buy it and pay postage!
And a finders fee!

Re: 14" Brass horn question
I think it may be a reproduction. The point where the bell attaches to the cone looks pretty crude and poorly soldered.

Re: 14" Brass horn question
That's possible but I also see what looks like wax residue in the lip of the bell and possibly in the joint connecting the body to the bell.I think it may be a reproduction. The point where the bell attaches to the cone looks pretty crude and poorly soldered.

Why is wax residue significant please Jerry.B. in terms of determining the age of a horn ?Jerry B. wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 4:04 pmThat's possible but I also see what looks like wax residue in the lip of the bell and possibly in the joint connecting the body to the bell.I think it may be a reproduction. Re: 14" Brass horn question
I was thinking that wax residue could contribute to the appearance of a poor connection between the bell and the body of the horn. That's all.Why is wax residue significant please Jerry.B. in terms of determining the age of a horn ?
