Weekend Find

Post by antique1973 »

Picked this VV-XIV last weekend for $175. It came with the original cabinet
key and a box (not sure what its for). Also a number of record binders
packed with records. I moved these to my L-door for now, although they are not
the proper type for that machine. The nickel on this one is excellent. The only
part it needs is an escutcheon since the original one is missing the center.
If anyone has a spare one to sell please PM me. Overall it was a pretty nice
deal I think.

Congrads on a great score! Nice looking machine there especially with the albums. Some of my best record finds have came with the Victrolas that I have bought.

Thanks Spin78! I thought the box should be for the reproducer but then the inside has a
T-shaped indentation that does not seem to fit a No. 2. There is also a small green T-shaped
female wrench. Perhaps that is for adjusting the tension springs on the reproducer?? The
records are probably the best I have seen so far that came with a machine. One of the folders
is all Harry Lauder records. Quite a few single siders too. Some Irish records and a German one.
Nothing too rare but more interesting than the ones I normally encounter.

Thanks 78. I am already out of room, this one has to sit in the garage for now.
I have a console and 2 tabletop models I plan on selling shortly to make some room. :)

Nice machine! The box is definitely for a nickel No. 2 sound box. I wonder why your reproducer doesn't fit? Perhaps a photo of the inside of the box, please?

Are you looking for the crank escutcheon? As I was reading your post I thought you were referring to a lock escutcheon, but when I scrolled down to the photos, I saw that both lock escutcheons were there. For future reference, if you ever find a Victrola with a missing lock escutcheon, please note that the upper and lower escutcheons are shaped differently to fit the contour of the cabinet.

Thanks John, I will post a pic of the box interior tomorrow.

Its the crank escutcheon I was referring to. Its odd, but the center of it became detached or punched out somehow so the hole is too big.

The reproducer fits inside that box face down. That long "slot" is for the needlebar on the #2.
Interesting that it came with the wrench. I've never seen one of those.
