Zenith Dual Seven Question

Post by bobkolba »

Not too many of these around `but I hope somebody can lead me through a tonearm adjustment that would force a reject at the end of the record. Also, what is the model number of the similar looking Zenith 45 player? Many thanks.

Look into the mechanism for any 'feeling' finger that should travel along with the tonearm across the record, and near the center it would engage some protuberance of a rotating cam below the turntable to trigger the reject mechanism. These feeling fingers I've seen in auto stop devices, as a light metal part that is led by the tonearm movement through a friction washer, or rubber part. I'm not a specialist, but have seen this in some records changers... Just my two cents... :? Or the finger is missing, or misplaced, or the rubber washer is old and dry and has no grip on the finger to move it... When the finger approaches the cam very slowly (following the grooves displacement) the cam moves it back a little, due to the shape of the protuberance. But if the finger approaches faster (as moved by the runout grooves) it engages the protuberance and triggers the mechanism. Also if it arrives to a certain position near the center, the tonearm forces it into the cam protuberance and triggers the mechanism (limit position).
A careful study of your mechanism while working may give you the clues about how it operates...
Some photos would help, anyway...
