Pygmyphone question

Post by brianu »

So I just bought the pygmyphone from the trader section…

… and I’ve been collecting machines and all that for quite some time now, so I truly feel like an idiot because I can’t figure out how to wind it. There’s obviously a hole in the turntable for the key to reach through to a rod running through the spring’s center, but it doesn’t turn at all. The mechanism otherwise turns freely and the spring is totally fine. Any suggestions? I’ve never had one of these child’s machines before with these really basic somewhat flimsy motors.

It's a toy and the winding is anything but gentle.
Turn the key clockwise with more force than expected.
It clicks loudly and firmly.
It is very durable.
Try it with the platter off so you can see and get the feel for it.

Are you certain it winds clockwise? I don't own one myself, just thinking out loud...

Thank you for the assistance… figuring it was a child’s machine I was probably being a bit too gentle trying to turn it. Working fine now. Thanks again.
