Saw this on the local craigslist, advertising for somebody to take the guts. Unsure if the person is serious about turning it into a buffet, or just riling up folks to get some interest.

Re: Edison long play console guts
Having the 10"/12" selector buttons... It means that it can play Edison LPs, isn't it?

No, those are not related to each other, except that some LP records were 12 inches in diameter. The 10/12 buttons are merely tabs that act to locate the pivoting horn/reproducer unit at the lead-in groove for the 10- or 12-inch disc.
The little control labeled LONG and SHORT on the right hand side of the bedplate actuates the gearchange for LP or normal modes.
Diamond disc machines came equipped with the 10/12 button assembly in the last few years of production, anticipating production of 12-inch discs. Other than the LPs, a series of promo discs for dealers only, and a small number of late needle-cut Edison records, those 12-inchers never came.

Someone should absolutely go get the motor and reproducer holder. I'd also bring along a reproducer and ask if the guy has anything that looks like it.

Guts will drop right into almost all other DD phonos. Horn sizes will vary but can easily be switched out. You can also install the LP gearing onto almost all DD machines (2 springs required, so add a spring barrel as needed), but it’s a little bit challenging.

‘Mechanism’ is such a more refined description than “guts”.

Apparently he received a little flack about turning it into a buffet, machine is listed as a whole thing now. He nor I have no idea what kind of price/value a long play console has, thoughts? I have limited storage space, but could probably hang onto it for a little bit for somebody to purchase from afar.
