I'd love to get some opinions. I'm finishing up a little cylinder cabinet for the Wayne show. It holds 96 cylinders, yet top is just 13 x 18.
Numbered pegs? or Plain?
Thanks-
Brad Abell

Seems to me numbered is more practical. Is there any compelling reason to go with plain?

I would number them. I don't recall originals that were not numbered.

Personally I think numbered is the way to go.
I like to make index booklets for my cylinders and Diamond Discs, with the number in the first column and the record title next to that number.
I use a 4B pencil for the titles so it's easy to read and can be erased later if you change the position of a cylinder or if one gets damaged.
It makes locating a particular title so much easier to find, especially when you've got hard to read cylinder title ends or early blunt end cylinders without any title at all.
Or in the case of DD's nothing but a record edge to look at.

Thanks for the replies so far-.. At this point it's 3 to 1 here on the forum, to install numbered pegs-- AND-- A collector friend and forum member just dropped by the house and also voted for numbered.
Anyone else want to chime in? I'll be installing the pegs this evening-
Thanks All-

Original cylinder cabinet pegs were numbered. I would vote for numbered pegs.

Thanks for the replies everyone-- I just finished installing the pegs. 96 total. I had already assembled and stamped them-- Then thought about whether plain ones may be an option-- I have plenty of pegs.
Neat little cabinet- Top is 13" x 18" and stands 31 ¾" high. Very compact.
So NUMBERS it is. Thanks!

Very nice. I would also agree that numbered pegs should go into it.

The old-style printing on the pegs adds a nice touch. I like it with the numbering as well.
