CL - Teenage Engineering PO-80 Record Factory – Vancouver, BC

No association with the seller.

Just posting this because it is interesting. If you were going to buy one, I would suggest just going Amazon or EBay for a new one.

BNIB Teenage Engineering PO-80 Record Factory - $260 (about $188 US)

It a weird way this is actually sort of cool. It is a small USB powered cutting lathe and record player that will cut and play 5" disks "with ultra-analog lo-fi sound." It comes as a kit that you must assemble yourself. It is apparently identical to a product by Gakken, which is less colourful and lower priced. The sound quality is poor, of course. There is a bit of buzz among some DJ types on Youtube, people who actually like the sound for certain purposes.

Very interesting! And the sound examples they provide are not too bad! They sound like our own well-worn 78s :D

Yes, I thought so, too.

I shared this with a nephew who owns a recording studio. He brought the Phonocut machine to my attention. The Phonocut is a very serious step up from the Teenage Engineering/Gakken toys.

Phonocut is a crowdsource-funded project which has not met its mass production delivery goals. It now seems to have some backing from Ortofon.
