My wife and I were watching the French TV series, Maigret, last night.
What looks very much like a blue HMV 102 with its record holder intact makes a guest appearance in Épisode 47, Les Petits Cochons sans queue.
Jules Maigret (Bruno Cremer) is helping a beautiful young woman (Vahina Giocante) who has had her husband disappear. She was a dance instructor, and she takes Maigret to the now closed studio where she formerly worked. On a table there is a 102. She plays a recording of a piano tango and dances. She is unsuccessful at convincing Maigret to dance.
What is realistic is the sound. What is unrealistic is that she does not have to wind the 102 up. It is all ready to go.

The machine in the TV pictures is a black 102.
The needle bin and the carrying handle mounts are black. On a coloured machine they would be chrome.
The felt on the record tray is brown, which is correct for a black machine.
Here is my French "La Voix de son Maitre" 102 in blue :

C'est Maigret et le HMV Noir Modèle 102!
On my TV, a cheap big box store brand thing, the 102 looked much bluer. The screen shots taken on my computer do look blacker.

I also watched that series (viewtopic.php?p=278353#p278353)
Which was great. Pity that the links to the series in yt seem to have been removed, but other sources are still available.
The main character was Bruno Cremer. Great series.
There was also another series by actor Michael Gambon, produced by Granada Television, also very good. You can find chapters also in yt.

Yes, I liked the Gambon series a lot.Inigo wrote: Sun Oct 16, 2022 4:04 pm There was also another series by actor Michael Gambon, produced by Granada Television, also very good. You can find chapters also in yt.
There was also an ITV series, one season only so far, starring Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean, Black Adder, Thin Blue Line, etc) as Maigret. Atkinson works as a very different Maigret once you get over seeing him as Mr. Bean. The role is very different from the comedic ones he normally takes, and he plays it very seriously, darker, more brooding, almost Sherlock Holmes-ish.

In comparison, Gambon, who is not French, and Cremer, who is, give the role a more laid-back Gallic charm, greater moral flexibility, mild indifference/ambivalence about it all, more comme ci comme ça about things in general.
