Seems like this has been on ebay before, but it's nice to look at again.

Re: Dream On.....
I did a "most expensive Victrola" search and saw the XX recently. Over the top opulence.
Is $14K the recession price though?
Its somewhat reassuring to see an L-Door like mine in the 3rd most expensive spot,
although I doubt its worth $3K.

I thought the XX was worth around $10,000 tops?

Didn't you notice the twain of 24ct fine gold thread, dangling from the key like a cow tail. This justifies the small markup.

Personally, I thought the orthophonic record was an odd touch. Why not at least photograph it with a pre WWI record? Oh well, it's better than showing it with a Decca or red label Columbia (or an LP
).

Looks like a lot went into the restoration of this one.
Do you think there really only nine in collectors hands??

Re: Dream On.....
this guy has at least four or five of them...
http://mrvictor.com/
aren't there a few in at that victorian palace in illinois? and the mid-atlantic collector to whom I sold mine some years ago, after the purchase, had two. so I'd think it's safe to say there are a good deal more than that seller's estimate...
that seller has a web site as well with some really nice machines, but everything seems overpriced, and not by just a little (has a XX ever sold for $14k? I too thought that they tended to sell for closer to 10, if not a little less, even at the height of the market). he seems often enough to list things on ebay, with equally inflated prices, but none of it ever seems to sell - I always figured the listings were more for advertising his business that anything else.

hmm... it might have been his then (johnson's). I remember not too long ago that he was letting some things go... the few prices I remember weren't cheap either, so I can't imagine much profit in flipping it if that's where this guy got the one presently on ebay.
