I have never seen an Mahogany Victrola that was this dark. I have a Brunswick with that finish. Maybe someone on here knows something about a possible special finish.

I hope that the next owner leaves the finish alone - possibly original - I think it's gorgeous

My guess is that it's been re-coated with shellac a few times in its life. Not an uncommon practice to spruce up old furniture in the 20's & 30's.

I think the inside label would say "Special Finish'. It looks like a Mahogany machine that has has some shellac or other finish applied over the years.

I contacted the seller and asked if the paper label had "Special Finish" on it. His reply was "It's mahogany"

Well, he's leaps and bounds over most sellers, who automatically state that everything is "oak". Unless it really is oak, in which case they call it mahogany.Phono-Phan wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 7:15 am I contacted the seller and asked if the paper label had "Special Finish" on it. I once asked an ebay seller a very specific question about a phonograph item. The reply was, "Who the hell cares?" Obviously, *I* did, and passed on both the item and the seller.JerryVan wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 11:54 amWell, he's leaps and bounds over most sellers, who automatically state that everything is "oak".
