This is a copy of the VICTOR nipper automobile ornament. I’m including an old forum thread where an original one of these was offered and sold here several years ago. What I am offering is a very nice copy of an original. It may be the only one I do, but if there is some interest , I may end up making a half dozen. No more than that, as they are a lot of work.
The originals were made from “pot metal” and it was the era where most potmetal seriously disintegrated over time. Some worse than others. Most all original VICTOR nippers I’ve seen were in pretty bad shape.I believe it’s called intergranular corrosion, but basically, the original use of lead in the recipe was found to not make a very good long term metal object. The originals are plainly marked “H.A.REIF PHILA” on the underside.
With all that said, I just have the one you see here right now. It is cast from “spelter, lead free”. It holds a shine for a looong time, it can be easily patinated or even nickel or chrome plated. I’m glad to patinate it for free, and also glad to have it plated to suit, as I’m sending some stuff off next week for some shiny work. As I said, it holds a shine very nice and may not be worth the extra expense. It has a mounting bolt , washer and nut on the underside. There is no writing on the underside and will only mark with a copy number , so it will not be confused with the original artifact( which are likely badly cracked, very valuable and not really safe to use on a vehicle) It is shown attached to a model A ford radiator cap, ( not included) but can be easily attached to any rad cap that you desire to drill a mounting hole in. $275 , and a direct email to [email protected] is the only way to reach me. I’m in Norwalk, Ohio 44857 Thanks and happy new year, Tim
