Picked up an Edison Standard D

Got this one for $250 today. Its nearly complete but minus the lid and
the last extension segment for the horn. The horn is after-market
and repainted, but the paint job is pretty good.

So do you have it listed on eBay yet for sale? I see the Odean ended up there as well as the Gem that you were so "excited" about.

If you intend to flip them....why do you always tell everyone the price you paid as the first part of your announcement?? That doesn't make much sense.

Well worth the $250 but it's housed in a model B cabinet. The D series should have the heavy moulding case with just the word "Edison" for the decal. Still a good buy in my opinion. Any problems with the pot metal bearing or has that been replaced? Jerry

I checked through my parts and did not find the last section for your crane. If nobody else can help, I would suggest that you go to a welding supply business. They may have a rod that fits into the bent section of your crane and you can cut it to the correct length. Jerry Blais

Thanks Jerry, it seems to be running pretty well in 2 and 4 min mode. As you can
probably notice in the video it has a "warbling" sound however. I put my rebuilt
model H on it and it still does it, so I think something else is causing this
effect. I thought the loose belt was the culprit but I tightened it up and
the problem persists. Could this be related to the bearing you are referring to?

Just for the record, the first of the D series Standards still had the earlier style low molding. I had one in the 676,000 range that had it, and I've seen others. I think there's one on ebay now.

This machine clearly has a Model B cabinet, however! Looks like a Model A carriage, with the early lift lever rather than a button, but there doesn't appear to be provision for a shaver. Curious...

I'd suggest slipping the belt off and spinning the mandrel. If everything spins freely, your problem is below the deck and I'd start with the governor. Jerry

Yep, my Standard B was doing the same thing because the weights were out of balance. Once I adjusted the weights properly, the warble was gone.

Nice deal on the Standard D! The warble you're getting could be a governor related issue. Did you oil the center mandrel bushing(bearing)? Any little uneven drag in the power train can also add to the sonic nastiness. It might be good to do a disassemble/cleaning. Anyway, nice find. I hope you get much pleasure from this machine.
