The (HMV) Gramophone in School -- 1930

In another post -- viewtopic.php?f=14&t=55325 -- an HMV 26 school gramophone was spotted for sale. It was modeled after the Victrola School House VV-XXV ( http://www.victor-victrola.com/XXV.htm ).

It's interesting that by 1930, The Gramophone Company was recommending the HMV 157 "specifically" for use in schools, as noted in the last page of this pamphlet:

The 157 has been described as reminding a person of a bedside cabinet from a Victorian hospital. It's an odd choice for a school model. Surely the horn is too low for a classroom?

...and no wheels! Then again, the earlier Victor/HMV school models didn't have them either.

The Victor Orthophonic versions of the school Victrolas -- the VV-8-7 ( http://www.victor-victrola.com/8-7.htm ) and the VV-8-8 ( http://www.victor-victrola.com/8-8.htm ) -- were both equipped with wheels so they could be easily moved from classroom to classroom, etc..

I'm glad the HMV school model has been rescued and won't end it's life as a plant stand or bathroom vanity--painted day-glow purple!
