I find myself with a dilemma.
I purchased a Victrola Schoolhouse last year and it’s one of my favorite machines.
All is original and in great shape (I believe) BUT one half of the folding shelf below is not.
It must have been a repair at some point along it’s lifetime, but I see it everyday and my eyes go directly toward it everyday.
It doesn’t affect functionality just my OCD.
I’m looking for a scrap piece of golden tiger oak board, either from a broken record cabinet or Victrola with the same aged golden color and flecks of the quarter sawn patterns.
Jokingly, I’ve called and estimated with woodcrafts-men in the New England area to possibly have the other side made…ridiculous…. I’ve had estimates from $800-$1200…ridiculous
I believe I can recreate the other half of the shelf using a template and the small part that is still there to replicate what is missing.
Is there anyone that may have a piece that could work for me?
I can supply measurements but I believe a 25”x30” section would be more than enough to get what I need.
I’ve looked and looked but can’t seem to find what I may need, anywhere.
Thank you for any help!!!
I have attached a photo of the machine in natural daylight.

Re: WANTED: Scrap tiger oak board
I made an new top for my Herzog full barrel by getting a coffee table off facebook and cutting it up. The table was $75 and it turned out great... I did re-finish the top, but I don't think it would be very difficult to match the finish on your machine.
Just a thought.

Re: WANTED: Scrap tiger oak board
That came out fantastic.
Yes, I’ve tried Facebook, Craigslist, eBay ect….and have searched and searched, nothing was a good “donor”
I’ve tried looking for broken cabinets, sewing machines, coffee tables and the list goes on.
Finding a broken one for cheap is the issue…I can find the wood no problem, it’s just connected to a $800 piece of furniture that’s up for sale..
Can’t seem to find the broken or donor piece of furniture……

unbelievable work, what is your process for refinishing? I'm assuming you grain fill and shellac it. And is that using an antique piece of oak? I can't imagine thats new wood with the patina.
Thanks

yes I grain filled, and then used LOTS of shellac, sanding, and patience till the grain was COMPLETELY filled. Nothing worse than looking at a piece of re-finished oak and being able to see the grain marks...

Wow! Thank you Ben
On second glance of that post, it’s the early style XXV without the split shelf.
I guess I could cut it to size…
