Jerry and friends gave me a visit today!

Post by AmberolaAndy »

Today is the day I look forward to every June!! Three guys visited my home with all sort of goodies and projects!!

I got an ICS Amberola which I will be asking for advice when it comes to getting it up and running!

I got a Standard B from 1906. The quintessential Edison machine if you ask me. I’m really excited to restore and get it up and running!

I got 2 and a half horns, the Half horn being the Bell for a MUSIC MASTER! I cannot wait to get the crane and elbow for it!!!!

And of course, I got a box of records I’m in the process of cleaning up! Unfortunately the tubes are too far gone to save so I’m disposing og them but I can always get new boxes from them when I’m done cleaning up!

I also FINALLY got a slanted carriage for my standard D machine after the one that had a JB Weld fix failed on me. (took 4 years but was totally worth it!)

I got the Very first solid state tape recorder model from 1959. A Steelman Transitape and it takes an INSANE amount of AA batteries!

Some Wire reels from 1960 apparently that have the Nixon Kennedy debate on them. I’d like the thank the original recorder for having the foresight for recording that piece of history.

I got one of those Japanese devices that you can put together and record your voice on plastic cups. There are many tutorials on YouTube on how to assemble them, also got a Victor tonearm in case I’m gonna need one.

Also various records (not 78s) but various flexi discs and all sorts of odds and ends.

That’s what I got this year! I took some photos. And the really cool thing that happened while they visited and with perfect timing, BIG BOY 4014 a famous steam engine passed though town!

Andy, you should post photos of the untouched cylinder records. You are a miracle worker! I'm embarrassed to say the cylinders came from me. In truth they were included with an Edison Standard project I picked up on our road trip to the Midwest Expo. I thought they were worthless but Andy is proving me wrong and I'm delighted.

The boxes are too far gone and had to be disposed of. but the records aren’t (even if some are shaped a lil funny) oh well I can get boxes or more storage with pegs!

Ok! I have cleaned up all the records! They were very filthy and I had to trashed their boxes due to them being too far gone… I now got a box of cleaned up records. The records themselves are very much the tastes of the average 1910s American, so some decent (Ada Jones/Billy Murray) and some are those weepy parlor ballads we have a love/hate relationship with. Found my THIRD BA copy of Uncle Josh Buys an Automobile in there. But the question is…will they play? I need to find my reamer tool to atleast make some of them fit on my machine due to some of the records being a little out of round.

While I was doing that I found my steel wool and goop cleaner and took care of the two Edison machines first. I’m going to get the Standard B machine to work BUT the latch to keep the gate shut is missing. I might make a Yankee Trader wanted ad about it. I also do not have a Belt either but I’m going to find that GE water filter O ring that has served me well the last couple times I need a belt for a Standard.

The motor seems to run just fine by the way…. https://youtu.be/zxCLbAiJVks

Ok I have something to admit… I swapped the case for this model B with my model D machine because I wanted to learn how to restore a case to a machine. I got nothing to lose.
