Damn....missed the 6. I don't think this really reflects the market as a whole. It was a smaller auction of an assortment of things, including a bunch of phonograph related stuff. I think all auctions are somewhat local, since even the shippable ones will have an added couple hundred dollars to the price for shipping, and the larger ones will go to those who are willing to drive out to the auction. In contrast, last month at Donely's Auction, a Vic 6 with a paper machie horn went for $4500, plus a 25% buyer fee, so we're over $5k for that. I was bidding on the Victor 10 reproducer and was left in the dust on that one that went for just under $4k before you factored in the buyer's fee. Just a mahogany horn with a gold plated elbow went for $1500 (not including buyers fee). I bid on a bunch of stuff at that auction, and everything went past the price I was willing to pay.

But that 5 and 6 that just went still stings a little.

I tried bidding on these items. My bid was declined. Really unusual since I've been bidding through live auctioneers for ages. I wonder if they just didn't want to ship. Crying shame for the client. These machines should have brought way more money.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. For a start, even in today's world of A.I. there is no way any bidding facility can read your mind and know what your intention is with regard to local collection or shipping. It's possible to bid online and then collect an item if you win it. It's hard to imagine any auction site refusing an online bid as most auctions online accept bids from anywhere in the world, let alone the host country. Are you sure the site didn't have a problem with your payment information being up to date and accepted? I know in the UK you cannot bid now without providing card details upfront and in some cases the sites take a "payment" of £0.00 before accepting you as a bidder.

I bid early on the 5, but just forgot about the auction. Did you get pre-approved to bid. I've noticed that different auction houses take longer than other to approve you to bid, and every single one requires separate approval separate from account on live auctioneers.

They did not approve my bid. I have no idea why. Stanton's approved my bids, Donley's approved my bids. I'm a little puzzled by it but, at those prices I definitely would have been a contender.

All of my payment things are up today.. I don't know what their problem was. I bid online with both Stanton's and Donley's fairly regularly. I guess it wasn't meant to be.
