HMV Exhibition Model Converted to EMG Usage

Post by Watanabehi »

I just bought an HMV Exhibition Model converted to EMG Usage. It wasn't so expensive and also it looks interesting, so I bought it.

In his book "The EMG Story" Frank James wrote that David Phillips, who developed the EMG and Expert soundboxes, chose the Exhibition as the ideal subject for further experiment. The soundbox you have purchased may even be a prototype.

I think that this was the ebay item:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335039066065 ... R8j2zO3YYg

(I hope it is okay to link to it).

I think this seller has created a few versions of this in the past and I must admit each time I have been very tempted to buy one. I would also have bought this one but I am spending my money 'else-where' at the moment. To me they look extremely well made and of course are 'one off's'.

When you receive it I would be very interested to know what you think of it and if you can, maybe you could post a video ?

A great item I think.

Yes, I bought this one from this seller. It was not so expensive and it just looks nice and interesting. I will test it as soon as it arrives here in the US.

Yes, I correspond with Martin Herrick from time to time, clever chap, and he has converted several of these. In a very similar way so has Alex Kirtley (member here on the TMF) with great success.

Roughly speaking, adapted them to use EMG-type springs, and added a Wright back.

Thanks for the explanation. I had missed the Ebay link and couldn't find the listing.
