Columbia Q/ busy bee wooden base

Post by daverob »

Hello,
I have this busy bee Q phonograph that came with this board and wooden case. I see some online with a wooden base, but those seem to have attachments for the lift off Columbia lid/suitcase.

Is this someone's aftermarket attempt to suitcase - ize this particular Q?

The wood base does not attach to the phonograph in any obvious way.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

It definitely looks like a very nice homemade case to secure a Busy Bee. I don't think Busy Bees were ever sold cased -- I think they were always basic. Some clever person opted to make his own. A great piece of phonographic history.

That's pretty neat, Dave. Does the baseboard fit inside the box? Looks like it's a bit larger than the box's interior dimensions. Nice piece regardless.

Interesting. The base fits in the case, or the phonograph does without the base, but with both the traveling Reproducer attachment portion prevents closure.
I guess someone thought it looked good enough.

Any idea what kind of base has only 3 screws for attaching something?

Top of base (the rubber washers had 'liquefied' so I removed them.)

the screws have odd spacers on them
