Help identifying an unknown cover of "Anniversary waltz"

Post by bensfractals »

For a while, i have been silently lurking in these forums just scrolling through posts, looking for something that may perhaps intrigue me enough to raise my eyebrow. However, i think today is the time to show a particular record from my collection that may intrigue you guys enough to raise your brows.

Here is the record in question:

(Double-click the video above or click this link to go to the video on YouTube.)

This specific cover of "Anniversary Waltz" has left me wondering who even made it the first place ever since i got my hands on it due to it's lack of credits. But since i now have the ability to post here, i'm asking you record collecting folk if you are able to identify the artist of this song. I have previously considered Vera Lynn to be behind this before, but that's most likely impossible.

TL;DR Help me find the artist behind this rendition of Anniversary Waltz

I'm the last person on earth who anyone would expect a smart phone app from, but my wife has an app called Shazam that "listens" to any given song and comes up with the title & artist. I've put it to the test. It has identified some really obscure stuff! Sorry if everybody already knows about this... Maybe kind of like recommending this new thing called the "internet" that I just heard about?

Also, since it's a "Custom Recording", maybe it's just a one-off from an amateur artist, albeit a very talented one! There were studios that would record anyone who wished to pay. I believe that's how Elvis entered the Sun Studios so long ago.

Interesting.

Vera Lynn did have one or two records (like one version of 'We'll Meet Again' - link below) which featured some-what unusually an instrument called a 'Novachord'.

So I wonder, could the instrument on your record which sounds like an organ actually be a 'Novachord' ?
