Here is the rare School House Victrola 8-8. It looks nice, but very expensive.

I would love this... but not at that price.

Can you post a link to the FB page? I can't locate it by what you've shown.

That appears on Craigslist Hillsboro-- https://portland.craigslist.org/search/ ... 1~grid~0~0

There are also a couple of reasonably priced Victor portables.

I have dealt with this fellow before. A guy named Mike. Good guy. Is a restorer but extremely particular and OCD about getting things exactly right as original. I can't tell you if that Schoolhouse is worth the price but he seems to have a real good finger on the market pulse and is not a price gouger at all. He just really loves bringing these machines back to as close to new original as you will find. I think anyone who gets this will be very satisfied with it.

No way he's even close on the price but there is a sucker born every minute as they say.

So what should the price be?

Not knowing he was a collector, I met Mike by accident earlier this year when buying a sheet music cabinet from him off Craigslist. He has a very nice collection of uprights and restores machines to a high standard. Similarly, I don't know if this is a fair price yet the Victor data book shows only 1,216 being made and sold from 1928-1930. The value is whatever someone will pay. I'm pretty sure this is the same machine on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqh3WAiwtr0. If someone wants this rare machine for their collection, I'd make him an offer. He can only say no. I'd be interested if I hadn't just bought another upright.

A very nice one sold at a Stanton auction a few years ago for $1200. This one looks excellent. Although probably refinished, it seems to be extremely well done.

Knowing what I saw in this guy's house, it's probably damn near mint as original. Thanks for the reference point, Jerry!

I bought two machines from Mike. He is a very nice guy. I am 71 years old and he is older than me. This machine has a metal re-entrant horn like HMV re-entrant standup larger machines. I have HMV 202 and 163. This is the only orthophonic one closer to them.
