I have a 1904 Victor Royal and I recently noticed some discoloration from the previous owners fingerprints on the front of the horn which in colour appears to be brass. I assume this can be fixed with a simple polishing, but I'm not sure if its actually brass or just a coating since I saw on http://www.victor-victrola.com/Victor%20R.htm that the horn was at least partly stamped steel.
How should I go about removing these prints?
Some images of the effected area:

That's brass, so feel free to polish. Here's a posting that may help:

They don’t need to be polished, it doesn’t change sound quality.

Could have just used a magnet in this case.

Dumb question but how does one use a magnet to clean metal?

One uses a magnet to determine if it's actually brass, which was a question of yours.MasterJack555 wrote: Sun Jan 28, 2024 8:31 pmDumb question but how does one use a magnet to clean metal?![]()
