Is There A Zonophono Expert Out There??

Post by gramophone78 »

Just found a neat 7" "Disco Zonophono" # 1368. The problem is I can't read the label. I can see Madrid and on the back it says reproduced in Germany. Does anyone know the title and artist??.

I picked up three Disco Zonophono records about 3 years ago and had never seen them before. These 3 discs were part of an 8 record single-sided set from the opera 'AIDA' and were recorded in Milan, 1905. With some research, I found that Disco Zonophono was for export or foreign release and were pressed by Victor (after they bought out Zon-O-Phone/Universal Talking Machine Co.) and also Deutsche Gramophon in Germany. All recordings were from Zon-O-Phone masters.
Your disc was no doubt pressed in Germany as evidenced by the unusual runoff. The following pictures are of Victor pressed Disco Zonophonos from my collection.
