Thanks for sharing that wonderful tune by 'Miss Ella." If I may make a suggestion, I believe your 16" V-Disc is an early vinyl and shouldn't be played with steel needles if that is what you are using on that portable. These were normally played on military transcription phonographs with a sapphire or diamond stylus and a much lighter tonearm and piped over a loud speaker either on base or on-board a ship.

Thanks Bill, I'm still doing some research on this one. I have a few WW2 vets that have shared comments and experiences on listening to the portable players in various theaters. I have seen a G.I. issue hand crank player on YouTube plus I will continue to seek out different needles to use. I had a very fine (thin) needle used here. Just now able to type in the right search terms on the 'net to locate the suppliers to our hobby.
