Brunswick Portable Motor Question

Post by Dave D »

Does anyone here have experience with this type of motor used on a Brunswick portable? It runs fine and just needs a good cleaning, but I am worried that spring barrel may be pot metal. I see spider web marks that might just be in the old oil, but it might be cracking of the spring barrel. It makes no sense to me that such a nicely made motor would be pot metal, but you never know what you might find.

Anybody know for sure what I am dealing with before I tear it down for overhaul?

It's a steel stamping Dave. Try rubbing the crack-like marks with some lacquer thinner and I think they'll disappear.

Thanks, Jerry! I was hoping that was the case.
