Gramophone identification, Model 10? IDENTIFIED

Post by LaoChe85 »

I have attached some pictures and just want to know what I have here, I think it's a HMV model 10 but I'm not too sure.
Thanks, Leo

Based on the information I found in "HMV Gramophones -- 1921 to 1936," there are two candidates that look like your model:

HMV 10 - - the case measures 41 ¾ in. high, 16 in. wide, 20 in. deep, however, there is no key hole above the horn's doors for a lid lock.

HMV 160 - - the case measures 38 ½ in. high, 18 ½ in. wide, 20 ¼ in. deep. This model is equipped with a lid lock key hole above the horn's doors.

I agree, it looks like the Model 160. Are you looking to complete this machine? I'd need to check and confirm, but I think I have a complete one of these with a very poor cabinet which I'd be happy to let go.

Yes I am looking to complete it, I have measured the cabinet and I can confirm it is a Model 160. I would love to take the parts off your hands if you'd be willing to send them over? I would be happy to pay whatever postage costs. Thanks

Having measured it, mine is indeed a 160 also. Unfortunately I don't have the time to disassemble it etc (unscrewing and removing the motor board is quick and easy of course, but all the rest including the horn is a bit more involved) and then I'd be left with the cabinet to dispose of - a fair amount of time and effort, much as I'd like to help. You'd be very welcome to visit and take it away free though! (BTW the one item it lacks is its No. 2 soundbox.)

I'm afraid I can't collect it as I live on the Isle of Wight and the trip wouldn't be worth it considering the ferry prices.

If I am ever down that way I could pick it up - that's if you still have it and I still need the parts. Could we exchange emails so I can notify you if I'm ever in Kent?
Thanks again.

Hi Leo - sure, it's [email protected] (I don't mind putting it up publicly here, as it's the same one as used for my BCN activities, as per the link in my 'signature' below). Perhaps an easier way will present itself!
