cabinet finish
First thanks to the members who gave helpful advise on my last question about a phonograph that I just aquired. Now just another question..this time about the wood finish. I think it is acutally in very good condition...but is there anything out there that one could use to perhaps clean some of the cabinet like the front which seems a fair bit darker..without doing any harm to the finish..or should I just leave it alone. Is there any thing to polish up the cabinet that is natural and will make the finish more mirror like? Thanks much.

Re: cabinet finish
This very machine has already been discussed on page 7 under the heading "Hi,I'm new here". The power cord issue was talked about also. This is the machine that is in Manitoba Canada.
I hope this helps with all your questions

This looks like walnut to me. I have a Victor 17 to, mine is Crank though Mahogany. Its a very nice machine you have there and Excellent condition to.

Re: cabinet finish
While there will likely be people with varying opinions on this matter, my personal preference is for using Kotton Klenser for cleaning up old phonographs. I have also heard others on this forum who have had good results with the Go-Jo non-pumice cleanser. I am also a fan of the Howard's Products (Restore-a-Finish, Feed and Wax)as well... though it doesn't appear your wood requires much more than a good cleaning and polishing.Altona1 wrote:First thanks to the members who gave helpful advise on my last question about a phonograph that I just aquired. the prior thread referenced above...

... may have been posted by a different user/user name (as some members of forums like these obviously have multiple accounts), but the machine is the same (just look at them closely).
this machine was also discussed in another thread regarding the owner's search for a power cord...

Re: cabinet finish
If that machine really looks as good as the pics show, I would leave it alone. That is American walnut. I had an XVIII in American walnut and yours looks quite similar. (I sold it to a friend, so I can still visit it once in a while.) If you do anything to it, just give it a couple of coats of a good furniture wax. I use Johnson's paste wax myself.

That machine looks gorgeous! I think it's great "as is". Please tell us about the light. Is it an original option for the VV-XVII? It looks like it uses a Christmas tree bulb. Is the base the same as one of those bulbs? What a beauty you have there.

THanks much to all who give their advise on what or what-not-to-do for the cabinet finish...it is really much appreciated.
