Born on this day in 1899: Jack Payne, British dance band leader during the 1920s and 1930s. Recording career lasted from 1925-1936, then again from 1939-1945. Hotel Cecil Orchestra leader in London from 1925-early 1928. Directed the BBC Dance Orchestra from 1928-early 1932. Found on British record labels such as Zonophone, Aco, Duophone, Regal, Columbia, Imperial, Rex, Decca, and HMV. Internationally, can be found on Regal, Elektroton, Columbia, Melotone, Kristall, Summit, Cristal, SovSong, Electrecord, HMV, and Decca, in nations such as the US, Australia, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and Russia just to name a few!

Hey, I have that one in my collection! Not the sleeve though, sadly. But both songs are good!

Jack Payne is also on the little advertisement records that Imperial issued, with an abbreviated version of his theme song on one side and him talking on the other. I have a couple of these, they come in little card boxes and are cute with their little sleeves: a nice contrast to the 50 cm Pathés. The one made by Gramophone to the queen's doll house is even smaller, but when they show up for sale the price is so high that I never had the appetite to buy one.
