I don't think that's a Victor

Looks like a Columbia Grafonola volume louver, crank, and tonearm/reproducer.

Re: Is this legit?
Maybe a custom-made piece - certainly well done, although the proportions look mismatched.

Re: Is this legit?
I'd agree. And yes, it's quite obviously a very well made custom piece although I agree with Carlos that the proportions could be much more appropriate.VanEpsFan1914 wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 9:34 pm Looks like a Columbia Grafonola volume louver, crank, and tonearm/reproducer.

I recognized right away that it was a Grafonola hybrid of some sort, but wondered whether it was a factory-produced item. Likely not, methinks.

Re: Is this legit?
I understood that Columbia fitted volume controlling louvres to avoid infringing Victor's patent on doors, so presumably the door on this machine is not a factory fitment. It would be interesting to know whether the storage beneath has compartments for records.

Re: Is this legit?
The louvres are quite deeply recessed on this to allow for the door to close flush across them and the whole thing seems to match perfectly in terms of colour, wood, inlay etc.epigramophone wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 4:12 am I understood that Columbia fitted volume controlling louvres to avoid infringing Victor's patent on doors, so presumably the door on this machine is not a factory fitment. Either way, if I was interested in this, I would simply buy it and not worry too much about its provenance; it's probably unique and worth the asking price for that alone.

I can't decide whether it's ugly or exquisite! But it does look completely "real" to me, and fascinating.
If I were still interested in acquiring 'statement piece furniture' gramophones, I'd be lusting after it!
