Yep, John is spot on correct. If my memory is correct, Victor advertised the motor in the XII as being the same as the Vic VI (or was it the VV-XVI?). I always thought that was interesting because the XII motor is unique to that model only. Maybe Victor considered it the same in performance and I suspect it shared common sub-construction parts like the governor and spring barrels. Jerry Blais

The motor in the XII was built that way to clear the long, low horn chamber.

Isn't it interesting that in some early Victrola table models the motor sits "in" the horn. The top of the horn is open and part of the motor occupies that space. Any motor noise would then come out through the horn. A compromise like that must have been done to expedite a model into production. Jerry B.

It is very similar to the motor in my V-6 but is not a bevel drive.
