I have a friend with a Edison diamondisk phono probably around 1916. He sent me a picture of what appears to be the Model number. It reads LU 3 Y, SM 13508. Does anyone have information on this phono?
Thanks,

The LU-37, or "London Upright" was introduced in August 1922, and remained on the market until early 1928. It was the least expensive floor model sold by Edison, originally priced at $100, and finally reduced to $75 in September 1927.

Called the ‘London Upright’ (there was also a ‘London Console’ — ‘LC’) after the cabinet factory that Edison purchased in New London, Wisconsin that produced these cabinets.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone have any instructions or maintenance info this phono? It actually winds up and plays but somewhat erratically. The stylus is very blunt but plays back music.

The stylus is not exactly a sharp point. There is a tiny spherical radius at the tip. Does the stylus leave any marks in the record grooves when you play it? Is there a noticeable echo, as if you're playing two grooves at a time? You are playing the thick Edison Diamond Disc records, correct?

All Edison DD machines operate on similar principles. Here's a general manual to give you an idea.dennis banker wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 2:39 pm Thanks for the reply.
