Vitanola type 14 repair

Hi-- I was just gifted a Vitanola type 14. Seems to to wind ok and spins, but when I put the needle on it slows to a stop. If I pick it back up it spins again, but always stops with the needle on. It's this something easy to fix, and how would I start? Thanks in advance

So I found advice on here -- let the crank run out, cranked it all the way, and changed the needle, and it worked. Now to find more needles
