Columbia Aluminum Horn Evolution

Post by phonospud »

🎵All of these things are NOT like the other🎶

I’m no expert, but did you know about these four different variations of Columbia aluminum horns?
Here’s my take on the subject:

Variation 1: no markings whatsoever. Two piece construction.

Variation 2: stamped patent applied for, no dates. Two piece construction.

Variation 3. Patent info 8-22-05. Two piece construction. My example has crap stuck to it at the moment

Variation 4: three piece horn assembly, having the small end crimped on. These horns are the only examples that will fit on a Columbia AO or AW where the horn goes INSIDE the trunion. They will ALSO work on all other regular Columbia carriages by going over their throat’s OD. This example also has no patent date info.

I hesitate to chronologically order these horns as I’m not as educated on their evolution as others. I hope that others with more insight will chime in.
Sorry the photos aren’t in the same order as my writing.
