Amberola 30 Repeating

Hi everyone, my Edison Amberola 30, which is missing a lot (it’s mostly just the required components), keeps repeating? I’ve tried with multiple cylinders but it plays for 5 seconds then loops back to the start, no matter where I put it on the record it does this. What is wrong?

Is that really an Amberola 30? It has a Diamond B reproducer.

Hi With the Diamond B, it is likely an Amb VIII or a DX (looks very similar to a 30) .. Make sure the rod the carriage slides on is clean and lightly oiled so that the carriage slides easily from side to side when raised.
As for the skipping-- Here's my first suggestion. As has been mentioned in other threads, the reproducer weight, must pivot freely. That is the large weight on the underside of the reproducer. The stylus bar is attached to it with a pin. If it isn't swiveling well at the pivot point where the large screw is on the "tail" of the reproducer, that could be the problem- That screw will need to be loosened, cleaned and oiled--
Another thing to check- Remove the reproducer-- Then "play" a record-- Do everything you would normally do to play a record--just without the reproducer in place- Check to see that the carriage is moving across the mandrel by itself- if not, then there is an issue with the half nut engagement on the feedscrew. There is a small set screw with a point on it om the front lower part of the carriage, that adjusts the height of the carriage when raised or lowered. You may need to adjust that to ensure the half-nut engages the feedscrew.
Hope this helps-
Brad Abell.

I believe it's an Amberola 30, with the wrong reproducer.

Notice that your carriage is not moving. The ½ nut is not engaging with the lead screw. If the carriage does not move, then reproducer can't keep up with the record. Once the reproducer hits the limit of its movement, it begins to skip.

How would I fix the half-nut not engaging with the lead screw?

It just depends upon why it's not engaging. Do some detective work and watch as you lower the reproducer to the record. Watch the movement of the ½ nut. Is it moving towards the lead screw? Is it engaging at all with the screw? Maybe it just needs adjustment. Maybe something is broken or worn out. Do the groundwork and let us know what you find.

In the video, you can see the limit loop hitting the limit pin and then bouncing back, causing the repeat. This video should tell you everything you need to know about setting it up properly.

Hi everyone, after inspection I am missing both the lower screw and the little plate that is circled. Does anyone know where i can get this piece? (or have one to sell?)
