Birthday Items

Post by paradroid1793 »

Hello everyone! Today is my birthday, and I thought I would share some of the various phonograph items I received from family members and friends. :D

An Edison Model S reproducer, small body too! (2/4 minute)
Victor 18526 - Beautiful Ohio/Till We Meet Again - Waltz
Victor 18498 - National Emblem March/"Lights Out" March
Standard Disc Record A1296 - The Oriental Love Song
Brown Wax Cylinder in Edison Gold Moulded Case
Brown Wax Cylinder with no case

I'm quite excited about all of them, however something interesting I noticed was that the Standard Disc Record has a larger hole which makes it hard to keep steady on my Victor VV-VIII. I'm curious as to why?

Anyway, this hobby is awesome, and like to thank everyone here for being helpful and knowledgeable on all of this stuff.

Happy Birthday!

I had one last month and I got nothin'! :( Can I borrow a few of your friends & family?

Standard discs, along with Aretino, United, Symphony, Harmony, and probably a few more, used odd sized holes to force you to buy only their records once you bought one of their machines.

Haha! :D

Huh. Kind of a frustrating practice. I can still play it on the Victor, I just have to align it on the felt. :)

Not too hard to make adapters with a piece of wooden dowel rod. Get a dowel the correct diameter for the record, slice off a small length, drill a hole for a normal size spindle, (exactly on center), and you're off to the races!
