“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

March 30, 1871: Born: Harry Macdonough, pioneer tenor and prolific recording artist.

March 30, 1892: Emile Berliner filed for a U.S. patent for a “Gramophone,” including acid etched recording on a zinc master. This fundamental patent was perhaps the most important in the early disc industry, describing a sound box propelled by the record’s groove.
