This is a very handsome machine which I assume is a VV2-55.
I don't know enough to comment on the asking price of $400 CDN.

It is very similar to one that I just purchased but is in much better condition than mine, and the finish and colour scheme seem quite different. Is this an all original machine or has it been "restored?"
The case lid looks a little out of alignment. But look at those corners!
And this is an interesting detail.

FWIW The Victor-Victrola Page shows a 2-55 in the same colorway with the painted interior like that.
Looks like someone was using it when 45s came out?

Yes. Interesting. But if you look closely, you will also see 33⅓ in smaller numbers on the speed control. The machine would have no problems with 45s besides destroying them, and in good condition it might play two or three sides before running out of steam. But would it even play a whole side of a Microgroove LP?

Wonder if it is for Program Transcriptions- the Victor "LPs" that were issued 1931-33. The popular series ones were standard groove shellacs. I think they were optimistic at a spring machine holding a steady speed at low RPM, though, if so.Lah Ca wrote: Mon Apr 07, 2025 8:17 pmThanks. The 2-55 I have has this color scheme, the sort of gold/brown hammered finish. Yours has the smooth green finish? These are terrific machines, I would certainly pick up any one I can find. Just not for $400. Especially with that broken pot metal back bracket. You can see that it is clearly broken. I think I heard of someone recreating this in a 3D print? But definitely not the same. This one, in its current condition, unless the broken piece is still there and can be superglued or epoxied back together, is pretty much only worth the value of the reproducer.

No, sadly, mine has neither the gold/brown hammered finish nor the smooth green one. It is kind of a drab, dark and dour oxblood, same with the case. The other two are much, much prettier.
$400 CDN is considerably less than $400 USD.Dischoard wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 6:08 pm These are terrific machines, I would certainly pick up any one I can find. Just not for $400. Especially with that broken pot metal back bracket. You can see that it is clearly broken.
Yes, I failed to notice the tone arm bracket. I wasn't really looking all that closely. I was just in amazement at the condition of the case and the general loveliness of it all in comparison to my machine. I would love to buy the machine to use with parts from mine. But not for $400, even $400 CDN.
There is a Youtube video showing someone recreating the top part of the bracket out of JB Weld.Dischoard wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 6:08 pm I think I heard of someone recreating this in a 3D print? My machine in its slightly decrepit condition will still play both sides of many 12" records on a single wind up. It can play up to three or three and half sides of many 10" records.gramophone-georg wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 12:22 am [Wonder if it is for Program Transcriptions- the Victor "LPs" that were issued 1931-33. I wonder what it was capable of when new.
