Sold: 78 Discs "Made In The Soviet Union"

Post by Dischoard »

I recently came upon a batch of 78s on a USSR label, turns out to be from the plant in Aprelevka around WWII. I've often seen people come into the particular thrift store where I found these and pull out discs to use in "class art projects" so when I see discs that I think may have interest to anyone (beyond use as a pallet or turning into a clock) I rescue them. These particular discs were not on Discogs so I photographed them and cataloged them with what limited knowledge I had. Here are the discs including a Czech Ultraphon and Czech HMV recording that was mixed in with the batch. I'm assuming these traveled down into the U.S. through Canada based on some conversation I had over on the 78 rpm disc FB group:

I won't be putting these on my player (I played a couple, not my particular area of interest), I offer them here as a group to anyone who collects these sorts of things. All discs are in EX shape as they appear to have been sleeved all their lives except for one disc which seems to have taken a hit. A triangle broke off of it and I was able to superglue it back into place and play the disc with only ticks occurring during the first ⅓ of the song. All others appear to have been minimally played, if at all. All come with what appears to be their original sleeve except for the HMV (which is in a Spanish language version of an old Columbia sleeve?).

If anyone would like this collection I'm only asking what I paid for them and that was $1 a piece. Of course shipping will factor in as well. I've only shipped around 100 78s in my lifetime and have never had one break. I'm not looking to change that record now ;)

I have no interest in selling these piece by piece, the packing and shipping alone make that venture not worth it. I imagine shipping 10 discs media mail will cost around $10 when all is said and done and $1 per disc will make the whole venture an even $20. Let me know if anyone here has any interest, otherwise I'll offer them as a lot on eBay.

Cheers! Aron

Very cool!! I've seen 1 in the wild, however they wanted $10 for it. Discogs price was $0.77 at the time lol.

You might want to move this post to the Music Trader. ;)
Be sure to look up Samuel Murchison Seka on the interwebs for some music and phonograph reading material.

Ah yes, thank you. You know, I always get the different forums here confused as every time I log in I just hit "New Posts" and it shows me everything. I started putting it under Music as at first I was just telling the story of what I'd found. But then I realized halfway through the post that I should offer them up to someone more interested so I went back and edited it to reflect that. I'll see if I can move it over without having to throw it all out and start over...

Moot point, just sold these on eBay, hopefully they're going to an appreciative buyer!
