Calling all Electrola 9-40 and Borgia II Owners

Post by MarkELynch »

If you have a VE-9-40 or Borgia II I’d appreciate hearing from you, particularly owners of machines that were updated to use the large “moving coil” Orthophonic driver. The later 8-60’s and the 10-51 also used this driver.

Does your machine contain one of these cabinet mounted resistors? It appears to be factory installed but does not appear on the wiring card attached to the inside any of of the rear panels. It is also not mentioned in any of the service literature nor in the Victor Executive notes at Hagley. The resistor is in series with one of the pickup leads.

A photo of your resistor and the resistance value would be helpful. Please note the type of driver in your Electrola

Thanks for your help with our research.

It occurs to me that most collectors are not familiar with the 1927 line of high-end Victors. Here is a photo of the 9-40.
The selling price for this model was $1000. The right side is a Credenza with both Acoustic and Electrical pickup and the left side contains the Radiola, antenna and the record albums.
