A strange combination.

We are all familiar with dual purpose portables, but here someone has decided to build their own around an HMV102.
If it had a carrying handle and came from India it would probably be classed as a transportable.

Sold for GBP£45 + Buyer's Protection. The soundbox alone is worth that.

Not as cheap as the HMV 156 in complete and original condition that sold yesterday for all of £25.

It was only 45-60 mins drive for me but since it was Philip Serrell's auction off the TV, as usual with just 24 hours notice and an early lot number, I couldn't get over to it.

It was described as "HMV gramophone" even though the model number is clearly marked on it. That shows the level of interest he / his people have in selling things properly. When will you learn, Phillip?

Well as long as they get their fizzog on the gogglebox.

I sold a 156 for more than that 40 years ago.

Excuse, please, I translate: means their mug on tube - their pan on little screen. ;)

In recent years many auctioneers have been more interested in carving out TV careers for themselves than offering a quality service to their clients. Some of them, described as experts on programmes such as "Bargain Hunt", even fail to spot damaged or reproduction items which then lose money for their luckless contestants when sold.

Those inconvenient realities make for a poor viewing experience.

I love this! Is it Yiddish in its origins?
