Actually, a Victrola salesman would have used more proper English and said "upon", not "on". 'On' sounds so . . . Columbia.

Wild imagination indeed, but I think it would actually look pretty neat in someones gramophone room, provided the price stayed around $10 or so. With a coat of tung oil to freshen it up, and a sheet of glass on top to protect the decal, it wouldn't look too bad holding a few nipper collectibles and victrola related items.
It could even prove useful next to someones Credenza as a surface to place and support albums as you flick through the pages and play the discs. I know at my house, clear surfaces are a bit of a rarity, & I usually end up crawling around on the floor to do this.
Even though it's basically junk as far as collectible antiques go, if I had the space & need for a side table of this size, then why not make it a "victrola table" that blends well with your collection, & all for the price of a pizza.
