I live in a relatively small 1950s house and have a lot of stuff. Space is at a premium. So I somewhat reluctantly I have had to come to the decision that my 1929 VV2-55 must go.
It is one of the oxblood models. It is not complete.
I have stripped what parts I need from it and may strip more for spares (that will probably sit unused in a storage box--so these could probably go too if they are needed elsewhere--and not all parts are directly interchangeable with my 1928 machine).
The motor is functional but quite noisy, and it there is a bit of platter wobble. It will play a worn, mega-drag 12" electrical recording easily through to the end. I might treat this as an adventure into deep dive motor restoration/servicing, an area where I have very little experience, yet.
The platter is not bad (now). The threaded spindle/platter-lock is good.
The case is in C/C- grade outside. It has a handle which is cosmetically OK but not entirely serviceable (as in I wouldn't try carrying the machine with it) -- but there is enough there that a leather worker could dismantle and restore it. The inside of the case is of a similar grade with a bit of surface rust that needs attention--but it is nothing that can't be cured easily. The paint on the motorboard and the top half is not bad. The hinge seems good. The latch is present and accounted for and functional--but surface rust is present. The record holder is intact but its rexine needs a little help on the inside.
Everything is negotiable. I am not overly interested in cash. Trade would be more interesting. Sadly, current events preclude international shipping, even of small parts. And postage costs in Canada preclude shipping of larger parts. And I recognize that the machines are extremely common, particularly as parts donor machines, although some individual parts are not. My expectations are low, and in purely practical and pragmatic terms, the offer here probably only extends to the Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley Areas in any viable sort of way.
But if you need something, we can talk. I am willing to let the beast go as a whole or to part it out.
I will probably wait a bit and then put the thing up on CL and FBM.
